Due to spam attacks I had to password protect editing. The password is the web standard you use to define the presentation of a web site (in uppercase). MACCAWS-AboutAbout MACCAWSThe original storyIn July 2002 a small thread started on www.evolt.org which was in turn inspired from the article "Sites bow to Microsoft's browser king" on News.com. The idea spawned from the end of Tara Cleveland's post: "I think someone should make a kit for designers and developers to give to their bosses. A kit that has all the arguments, studies, as much info as possible, for valid code, from a financial as well as 'it's good for the future of the Web' perspective aimed at company owners, managers, clients etc."
However, no such 'kit' existed. The mission of MACCAWS was born: to create such a kit and make it publicly available so that it would help the lone individual(s) who are faced with stepping into a client's or a manager's office to quantify the reasons for writing good code for the Web. "MACCAWS" is an abbreviation for "Making a Commercial Case for Web Standards". Other MACCAWS workFor a short time, MACCAWS was going to resurrect/update the content and had worked on putting together a web standards survey. With the release of the ALA survey, this was deemed no longer necessary, so the work on this came to a halt. MACCAWS todayThe MACCAWS Kit as it exists today began as the hard work of many but was eventually held together by the sheer tenacity and stubbornness of Tara Cleveland and Stephanie Troeth until its official publication in 2004. Stephanie has since transferred the content — that is in desparate need of updating — to this wiki so that the information can be available for re-use. Today, MACCAWS is no longer an active group as many of its members have sought greener pastures.
