GeoMaker allows you to find and display geographical information in texts, web sites and RSS feeds.
By using GeoMaker you can turn any of these resources into a map or Microformats to embed into your own web sites, blogs and apps.
GeoMaker was written by Chris Heilmann (@codepo8 on Twitter, the blog is here) with refinement help by the Yahoo Geo Team.
GeoMaker is free of use, but if you really consider it useful and it saves you a lot of time, we'd love a donation (PayPal form is in the footer of this page).
In essence, GeoMaker is an easier interface to two web services: Yahoo Placemaker and Yahoo Maps.
You can achieve the same results with Placemaker itself, but the filtering of false locations has to be done by hand, which is why we thought an interface would be a good plan. It is also possible to replace the Yahoo Maps output with another provider, for example Google maps and future versions of GeoMaker will get this feature.
The interface was build using the Yahoo User Interface library, especially the YUI grids, fonts, base, data table and button.
GeoMaker is this web site, but you can also download it and install it on your own server, for details check the developers section.
GeoMaker is Open Source and available on GitHub. The license is BSD:
However, this does not apply to the use of the maps you generate with GeoMaker - they are defined in the Yahoo Maps Terms of Service.
We would also strongly recommend to get your own development key for Yahoo Maps and replace the one in the generated code with yours.
If you download and install GeoMaker you also need to check the Placemaker Terms and Conditions.
